Where is the Toyota Tacoma assembled?

I read online that the Tacoma is assembled in Mexico, California, and Japan. Does this mean that the Tacoma is assembled in all three of these places (like does each place specialize in building a certain part of the vehicle), or do each of the plants build the truck completely (if that's the case I'd really want to get one that is assembled in the USA)? I hope this question makes sense..

(I know that the Tundra plant in Texas is going to start building Tacomas this summer, so this question is referring to how assembly works right now)
 
None of the Tacomas in the United States are assembled in Japan. It's already one of the most expensive compact trucks and the "Chicken Tax" would add 25% tarriff to that price.

Just look at the VIN. If the first digit is a 1, 4, or 5, it's made in the USA (usually 4T*****). If it's a 3 then it's made in Mexico.
