where is the location of the ENGINE COOLANT THERMOSTAT in my mazda protege.?

Large hose from radiator goes to a housing on the engine....inside this housing is the thermostat. If engine overheating and you have plenty of coolant.....thermostat is probably stuck in the closed position. Usually very easy to replace thermostat BUT don't forget to get the small gasket for the thermostat.
 
Not familiar with that car, but the thermostat should be located near where the top radiator hose connects to the engine.
