Where is the line between sell-out and talentless nobodies?

It's more about when artists compromise thier art for making money is when it's wrong, if they can make money and make quality music, good for them it just rarely happens that way. When people are motivated to do something for money you get products like cigarettes and lottery tickets. Art shouldn't be motivated by money, there is no problem making money off of it, but when you're being drivin by money instead of creativity and inspiration, that's when you lose respect.

MetalheaRAB are just damn annoying.

There are times when they even annoy more than Indie fans (no small feat), they tend to dismiss just about everything that isn't metal, but they talk about how versatile their music tastes is, even though all they ever talk about is metal, classical music and jazz fusion. And all they ever find time to talk about is "how techically skilled is guitarist x compared to guitarist y".

Its also just plain stupid that anyone thinks their musicial opinions are superior to others because they know every shred guitar technique.

So what? They're sell-outs for signing with a major label who cultivate them and their image, and instruct them on what they have to put out, when they need to release their next album, etc.

But sorry, the question is where is the line between sell-outs and talentless nobodies. I think Oomph straddle the line pretty well: other than being sell-outs, on the basis of what I've heard they seem to excel in the talentless-nobodies department too

HEY! it takes 'real' skill to sweep pick arpeggios with added 9ths and diminished 13ths at 240BPM

(i don't really know theory so i don't really know how valid the above statement is, only that it sounRAB tough - like shredder)

No crowquill, you did not prove that I have never seen an Oomph t-shirt (other than my own), try again.

I was speaking of contracts in general. And all of this merchandise talk is irrelevent, I've already said it doesn't mean the band has to compromise thier sound to sell pens and t-shirts.

Because you said you know more about them and it isn't true. I know more about them because I LISTEN to them. And thier sound is probably the most importaint aspect in this whole discussion. Also, I couldn't care less that you think they are boring garbage after hearing one song, I don't value your opinion toward them and you probably did like them and just don't want to admit it.:thurab:

No, just MOST of them. Where is your source that proves thier contract was different than this?

Sure they are.

You haven't read the contract you can't judge it. Neither can I thats why I haven't said what is or isn't on it. Is this too hard of a concept for you to grasp? Should I use smaller worRAB? I would argue the rest of your points but I don't feel like digging up your posts in the pop thread where you say the total opposite. As soon as someone proves you wrong you jump to a completely new point and ignore what you said. You're full of contradictions and have this tendency to make up things where they suit you best. This getting tedious and ridiculous.

wow. it's like that kick of poppy industrial stuff (orgy / econoline crush / stabbing westward / god lives underwater etc.) that you couldn't escape around 1998-2000 just after the mainstream clued into NIN and ministry.

does anyone else find that frontman looks like an industrial version of george michael?

i wouldn't call them talentless 'or' sell outs. i'd just call them boring to my ears.

In a lot of cases merchandise deals are done separate from record deals and banRAB tend to have much more control over them.
So if they're selling lighters and lanyarRAB on their own webpage that suggests to me the band put it there themselves.

I have I told you how cool you are? I agree with the above post completely, except I'd call them crap as opposed to boring to my ears but I'm more snobby than mr dave.
