Where is the fuel filter located in a 96 toyota corolla?

Is it a hard job to do? I want to change it myself. How long should it take to change it?
Whoa really? I dont think thats true. I l already have a price quote from the dealer which is about 35 dollars. I just want to know where it is. But then again mine is the 7th generation model and yours is the eighth, so they could have changed it. Although I highly doubt it. Thanks for the answer though.
 
Step 1: Open the hood and look on the driver's side to find the fuel filter. It is a somewhat small canister attached to the fuel line.

Step 2: Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait 90 seconds or more as a precaution against disturbing the air bags. Remove the protective shield around the fuel filter. If the air cleaner hose and cap and the charcoal canister are in the way, remove them as well.

Step 3: Loosen the lower flare nut slowly to allow all the pressure out. Take off the banjo fitting and the two metal gaskets. Next disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter. Finally, take the filter out of the mounting bracket.

Step 4: Slide the new fuel filter into the mounting bracket and hold it with the arrow pointing toward the engine. Place a new metal gasket on each end. Attach them with the union bolt.

Step 5: Tighten the flare nut on the lower connection. Put the charcoal canister back, along with the air cleaner hose and air cleaner cap if you removed them. Reattach the protective shield and hook up the negative battery cable. Check for leaks when you start your Corolla.
 
I drove a 1999 Toyota Corolla and I wanted to change my fuel filter and found that you can't even buy the part. I would go into Auto Zone or Checker Auto Parts and it would always say 'NA' in the parts book.
So I went to the Toyota dealership and asked for the part from them, and they told me the the fuel filter is attached to the fuel system in a way that it can't be replaced unless you replace the whole fuel system. The fuel filter isn't 'meant to be replaced.'
So I never replaced mine because it was going to cost around $600 for the dealer to replace the fuel system.
I don't know if maybe the dealer just gave me just some big speech and was trying to make money off of me but that is what I heard.
