Last night i rescued a baby hedgehog that was in the middle of the road. We was going to take him up RSPCA today but they only take them if it is sick or injured, i believe he is perfectly healthy.
Today, we intend on releasing him in a good place, I'd like to set him free where I found him, but i'm worried he will get killed as there are many roads nearby, he was near a park, but if you go down the road about 30 metres from where i found him, there are about 5 big main roads leading off eachother, i hear they travel roughly 1-2 miles a night, and so he'd probably of ended up in the road. :\
I was thinking of taking him to a woods near me, unfortunately my only choice is to set him free in the day time, not at dusk when they come out, which is a shame, i am 13 and my grandad suggested the woods, he wont drive at night time...
What other good places are there likely to be other hedgehogs nearby? Is a woods a safe idea, he needs to go into a natural habitat tongiht where there are slugs and other bugs to eat...
Thank you.
I would release it into my garden, but he's wild, and they carry flea's - I have a dog, and my garden is all slabs, so not many slugs and stuff. I also read that they should be released somewhere where they can get easy in and out access, theres no access out of my garden apart from under the gate, but then he is on a main road.
He needs somewhere which is at least 10 gardens big i saw on a website. But thanks anyway.
