Where exactly is the "adam's apple" meant to be in females?

I was just wondering because my adams apple is right at the top(where my neck starts) and it hurts when i press it gently..also is it quite swollen in that area. If I were to keep my face straight(at face level) then you wouldnt be able to see my adam's apple( my necks not short just average but with my freinds i can see theirs).
