Where does the O-Ring that comes with the water pump for a Mazda Protege '93 goes?

I have a Mazda Protege '93 DX SOHC. I am replacing the water pump. The new pump came with two gaskets and a rubber O-ring. I have no idea where the O-ring is supposed to go. HELP.
