Where does GM place blame for corporation's recent poor performance?

One of the reason why I think GM has done very poorly recently is because of the great demand for fuel which caused the price of fuel to go up almost over night. One of GM's main automobile has a V8 engine that drinks lots of fuel. Many people found themselves in a gas crunch to afford buying fuel so other people did not even buy those types of vehicles.
