Where do you stand on the protein/carbs debate?

I've noticed health fanatics tend to be in one of two camps. One believes it's healthy to eat a lot of fruit of veggies and a bit of everything else (e.g. grains, protein, healthy fats, etc) and the other places more emphasis on protein, holding it up as equally important as veggies, if not more while believing that carbs, naturals sugars etc should be eaten less.

What are your personal thoughts on this?

If you are a pro athlete you need more carbs aka energy. If you are an average person you should stick to a balance between carbs and protein. Get your carbs from vegetables and fruits, not breads and pastas. Get your protein from lean meats or meat substitutes like tofu. Eat 60% carbs 40% in the morning/noon hours and switch to 40% carbs and 60% protein in the evening. If you eat nothing but carbs and you don't exercise a ton, you WILL become fat. If you eat nothing but protein (Atkins diet) you will be tired all of the time.
