Well even the good cartoons today that are written by the same people who storyboard it he hates, so theres really no sense in listening to him if he's going to be hating on every single show. I got tired of looking at his blog because his comments kept making no sense. He was praising the crappy Rocky and Bullwinkle drawings just because of the date. Seriously, anyone over the age of 6 could draw like that. While he bashes great shows like Rocko's Modern Life and Invader Zim without explaining why. He even admitted the Games episodes of Ren and Stimpy had great animation, but the... writing and chemistry (That had nothing to do with the art style) was what made them "suck".
He needs to get his facts organized before making his statements, seriously theres like a loophole in almost every singe statement he's made on his blog. And of course, he gets praised by his zombie fans for even the most ridiculous stuff. I never want to work with John K, ever.
There are some good writers who can't draw, but theres a different style to animation writing than say writing for a sitcom. A lot of the writers these days don't take advantage of what animation can offer in comparison to live action, which bugs me. I'm an animation writer, and I do my best to avoid the cliche's and try to be original, and I know in time I can do better. I'm currently learning to storyboard too, which I believe is just as important, if not more.
Anyone can write for animation, but that doesn't make them animation writers. Most people in the position I believe AREN'T animation writers, and it gives them all a bad name.
Yes, and some of those who write for animation are the worst. I don't consider the Family Guy "writers" writers at all, their stuff wouldn't even fit live action. Wow, I know pop culture, so lets make references that borderline plagiarism and people will find them funny because they can relate to them, while having a story thats been a million times.
Yes, Family Guy borderlines plagiarism.
