where do the shells come from that grow in my fish tank?

I have about 10 goldfish, 3 gourmi fish and 2 sucker fishes, and i have noticed little shells along the bottom of the tank. They are alive and crawl along the bottom. Where do they come from, and can they escape?? i am really freaked out!!
 
If you have live plants in your aquarium oftentimes pest snails hitch a ride on the plants. That is why you should thoroughly rinse plants before adding them in your tank.

I would concentrate on the bigger problem: your over/incorrectly stocked tank.
