Where do criminals get illegal guns from?

How do criminals manage to obtain illegal firearms? I heard of many cases in which criminals obtained guns hours after being released from prison. In places like Britain and Canada, criminals obtain guns that civilians do not even have access to (ie. full autos and handguns). Where are those guns coming from? Shouldn't governments target their laws at those sources instead of civilians?
 
same place they get illegal narcotics ... the criminals will ALWAYS have access to guns.
