Where can I find the key code on my Ford?

I just purchased a 2004 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 and the owner did not provide me with the 5 digit factory key code. Can someone tell me where on the vehicle I will be able to find it? I looked in obvious places like the door jams lift gate etc. but was not successful. Please help, I used to own a 1998 model and am so lost without the code!! Thank you!!
 
go to the dealer with the vin number and your registration and id, and they should have it there. People do the same thing with lost keys, they can cut keys off the vin.
