I am considering doing about a 20-30 day hike across Ireland this fall. I am doing this for a backpacking/camping/hiking experience, so I want to avoid hostels and rental cars. I am unfamiliar with land policy in Ireland. How easy/hard is it to pitch tent in the middle of Irish countryside? Would it be illegal?
