Where are transmission solenoids in a Dodge 48RE tranny located, and how do I check...

...them? (No OD or 2nd gear)? It's in a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie 4x4. 2nd gear is like neutral, and overdrive is non-existent.

See if it was an older model mid 90s etc I'd say it could be solenoid pack related but that year of vehicle has a much more detailed trouble code system and would indicate such a problem via a code or codes being recorded and stored.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way be sure you go after a few different diagnoses and free estimates before ever agreeing on spending the big bucks , plus check around for other opinions besides buying new or rebuilds etc.

there inside the tranny pan, the pan has to come down to get them.
but if 2nd gear and is like Neutral, sorry to say, your tranny could be smoked, second gear is pretty much on its own without electronics controlling it (analog), no second gear solenoids that can go bad.

i'd take it to Cottman or Apollo and have them look at it

their inside up above the valve body on that one, before i dropped the pan off though id scan the computer to see what might actually be causing that too happen, its odd that you lost those two gears on it,that could also be a bad tcm unit causing this too happen also, good luck.
