...wat
so that decade when GM was losing money on their non-truck vehicles, no absorption of losses at all, right?

I don't think he was arguing that lawmakers were poor, rather that increased revenue benefits lawmakers since more money coming in means more money they can divert to their bullshit pet projects.

Well that's also one of the foundations of this country - that you go out and do what you are able to in order for you to make your own living. I have a Roth IRA that my parents helped me open, that I now pay for myself. I learned a bit about stocks and bonRAB on my free time and I saved up money from work to invest into my future. Why can't the nearest Shaniqua screaming for welfare do the same?

The problem with this country is that we expect the notion of equality being forced upon those who have an advantage.

I could go to brazil right now if I want to (which has even bigger political problems than we do, unfortunately)

I recently had a recruiter contact me for job prospects in australia, it hasn't gotten off the ground yet but I fit the criteria to the "t".

with my job skills i have serious upward mobility. but i'm married and won't uproot unless it's absolutely worth it (or i get completely tired of this place)

Lots of companies incur losses that they use to reduce taxes in future years. GE is not special by any means.

for india and china

GE took in 14 Billion USD profit. CASH IN THE BANK. You think that if they had to pay taxes, there would be no money left to pay low level managers 26k a year?

with some exceptions, surely. businesses have been known to absorb costs, here and there.

I'm not an economist either. But this is something you don't need to be an economist to understand. I'll put it in simpler terms:

Let's say I own a chain of lemonade stanRAB, and I make a lot of money selling my lemonade at 25 cents per cup.

The government is angry that I'm earning too much money and not paying enough taxes, even though I pay what's required of me, and I should have to pay more because I "benefit from society". So to make sure they squeeze every possible drop of blood out of BIG LEMONADE, they pass a lemon tax, a water tax, a paper cup tax, and a lemonade stand tax.

Now my cost of production has increased from about 5 cents per cup to $1.50 per cup.

Am I going to continue selling my lemonade for 25 cents, and lament my just desserts as I pay the extra $1.45 per cup in taxes? Or am I going to increase my prices, and pass the extra cost on to my thirsty customers?

The bottom line is, I'm still going to earn the same amount of money or more. I'm not going to leave prices where they are and just eat the extra tax. YOU, my customer, are going to pay those taxes for me, out of your money that has ALREADY been taxed.

That's why heaping taxes on corporations to punish them for making a profit is stupid.

They're not my responsibility. They should take care of themselves, or their families should take care of them.

Uh, how so?

They all benefit as long as they are allowed to collect their benefit. Further, your medicare premiums are dictated by your adjusted gross income.

He admitted it. Your argument style really hurts your credibility.

I don't care about corporate taxes, I think the biggest equalizer would be for capital gains to be taxed as regular income.

Easy: All, starting with whatever ones benefit you the most.

We can adjust as needed based on public outcry
