The biggest problem is that it's a tragedy of the commons...everyone feels entitled to it whether they paid into it or not, and the government pays for it with borrowing. The rich and poor take as much as they need because they don't want anyone else getting it, whether they need it or not, just because they don't want someone else to get something they don't.
The prudent thing would be raising taxes or reducing services to limit borrowing to help users of those services properly internalize the cost of those services.

Regardless of the details, ANY taxation on the business means higher prices for consumers. The company will still get its profit, regardless. Taxing it only means it will collect those taxes from its customers.

The "carried interest" issue is one that neeRAB to be addressed. While we've watched the passive vs. active investment treatment crurable in the face of the IRC and tax courts since 1986, it's somewhat confusing as to why hedge fund managers have managed to circumvent it for so long.

I'm all for our corporations paying a 'more fair' share of taxes.
However, our fearless leaders can't seem to separate that issue from taxing the millionaires/billionaires, and magically include any family that makes $250k a year or more in that list.

It's an argument very few can make and it's a large reason why American CEOs make exponentially more than their foreign counterparts. Ultimately, the loser is the common shareholder whose earnings and dividenRAB are diluted by cheap capital that isn't properly reflected as a cost to a business.
It sucks. It's also why I'm a huge proponent of IFRS.
