I don't know much about the area personally, but the site above has listed quite a few areas that you can hike in, the first listed is in Upland, so that's right where you want to be! Hopefully that list will help you out and give you some options.

I like Forrest Falls area, I used to go up there a lot. Take the 10 E towards Redlands, exit left Alabama, right onto Lugonia, and take that all the way up, Lugonia turns into hwy 38, which takes you up the mountain, but Forrest Falls isn't that far up. Follow the signs, stop at the ranger station for a day pass( $5). You will start to head down a narrow road, and past a fire station and it will end into a recreation area. There is a huge waterfall you can hike up, some of it is in the water so bring shoes with good grip. There are also small pools made in the rocks, which makes it especially great in the summer time. But it's all melting snow so even in August the water is very cold! My friend saw a bear there once so keep that in mind. Once you get to the top the view is great, it really makes you appreciate so cal in a different way.

I live in Rancho Cucamonga and I just went up to Mt. Baldy a few days ago. Uhm, There's a ski lift and next to it is a hiking trail. Steep and worth feeling the burn. There's also Forest Falls, steep as well. Not too long of a hike, but you're very close to the edge so it takes longer. And you're hiking up next to the falls the whole time.
Theres a lot more in the Mt Baldy area. Just ask and theyll give you a map
