I can't find them.? I wonder if the ignorant faction of the Right use the excuse of "I went to the school of life than some overpriced college full of elitists who are out of touch and worship Karl Marx and try to turn us into communists" to justify not getting a formal education. It's about as lame as a leftist saying, "I don't work b/c I am not going to be a slave to the hegemonic apparatus and feed the capitalist octopus" ----both types exist, fortunately, they aren't as common as people make them out to be,, but here at Yahoo (appropriate name), I always hear about these Marxist, brain-washing educators. Um, I am confused. Now I can't speak for all, but I did teach high school for a year, and every educator there I knew in this public school taught math, science, literature, history and foreign languages not how to become a Trotskyist. In fact, the overwhelming majority of teachers were ordinary married people with houses in the suburbs who wanted to keep that way of life. I knew one gay teacher but he was pretty much in the closet and didn't make an issue out of his sexuality, in fact, I never found one propagandist and this was a huge public school that I taught in in 2007.
College, I got a BA in English lit from a large state university in 1996 and a master's degree in post-secondary education from that same university in 2001, I also have a BA in Spanish and French from another large state university where I am now pursuing an MA in Spanish literature....now, I only remember one open leftist in the English department, an ageing hippy who openly supported the Zapatista movement, the rest were apolitical, in fact, the only other one who was openly political was my Milton professor who was a Bob Dole supporter as was his wife, a fellow professor. My French professor was a gun lover, my French culture professor belonged to the Society of St. Pius X....regarding my education degree, I had one class in multicultural education and he was a liberal, White male....regarding my Spanish/French degreee, no open political ideologues there and for my master's, the head of my committe is a social conservative, he escaped from the former Czechoslovakia, the other member of my committe has a fan page on his FB site for Sean Hannity and helps the conservative student union, the last member of my committe was totally apolitical in the three courses I took with him. Where are people getting this from? Sure there are radicals in academia, but it's stupid to pretend that every other class is an indoctrination center.
So, why am I meeting ordinary, moderate family men and women who work hard, live middle class lives and don't indoctrinate their students? Where are all these raging hippies with their Marxist ideals that they are inculcating the kids with? Am I doing something wrong? How is it that I actually meet conservative, tenured professors ----they don't exist, right?
