Whenever you flash a HTC 4g from Sprint to Boost Mobile, do I need the donor phone activated?

Whenever you flash a HTC 4g from Sprint to Boost Mobile, and your going to use your existing number, do you have to have your (in my case the RANT) number activated on the donor phone prior? I have my service activated on an Innuendo at the moment, but have a used Rant for the donor phone, should I activate the Rant before using its MSL/SPC onto CMDA?
