...won't let me open in windows media? I have a new Dell inspiron with Vista. The computer recognizes the dvd just fine. And so does windows media player. But it will only open in powerdvd. Powerdvd even overrides windows media player when i try to open it from there. Why is this and how can I fix it?
I even set the default to windows media player and it continues to do it. I'm not seeing where i can change what it opens with in properties.
Unfortunately under my dvds it also doesn't tell me what the default player is. however, i went into the control panel and set it to windows media player and it continues not to work. It will open to windows media player but right after it will automatically close and open powerdvd.

im not positive but it could be two reasons one you dont have the windows media player codec for dvds or two powerdvd is set as your default dvd player. if thats the case then insert the dvd go into my computer right click on the dvd and click propeties then click change which is next to "open with" so and so.

Hello, I have a windows dell inspirion aswell, with vista you must go to MY COMPUTER then right click on the symbo which shows you the dvd you want to play and then scroll down to PROPERTIES click that then it will show you details about the DVD and where it says default player it shoudl be STRAIGHT UNDER the name of the DVD click change and search for WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. The thats it it will now be your default player for dvd's.
