they already have made some.......they had for crown vics running a test circuit at 110 mph in 1995......with 8.5 feet in between them......the problem with self driving cars is that until they can put an artificial intelligence into it that its not practical and even then its dangerous.....
the biggest problem...is if u had tehm ope to the public...most ppl wudnt do the maintenance/repairs like they shud.....and catastrophic failure or act of god as its called will always make these impractical.......
just think of all the ppl now who dont change there tires wen they shud because they dont want to spend the money......then figure it just takes 1 of those ppl to cas a 150+ car pile up with automated cars.... or say 1 of the batteries dies.......all these problems and millions more will have to b sorted b4 its practical......
so a much more likely situation wud b automated public transportation
think a bus that drives itself...tho it wud have to b a low enough speed to have tiem to react to other vehicles.....
so id say at least from the rate we're going at least another 100 to 500 years.....
