When will movies be in 3D?

I am so sick of cgi, 2d and all the same crap we currently have, when will all movies use 3d?. If google earth can create 3d images well so can hollywood.
 
But you view Google Earth's 3D models on a 2D display, as you would do with a film.

Visit the IMAX if you want some 3D, or wait for George Lucas and James Cameron to push their efforts through the cinemas of the future.
 
Quite a few did it with that red/green shift thing. Quite pointless if you want to watch a film in red and green, though :p

I think one of the Nightmare on Elm Street ones did it, too?
 
What are you talking about? Google earth isn't true out of screen 3D is it? As far as I'm aware its a 3D image display on any monitor which is basically what CGI is in most cases. As for movies in 3D i'm not really sure of the advantages of it, from what i've seen so far it looks very pathetic e.g spy kiRAB 3D etc.
 
I can't understand why some films get released on DVD as 3D versions and you get the red and green glasses with them - I thought that didn't work on the telly.

I saw Jaws 3D years ago at the cinema and it was grey glasses not red and green, if you took the glasses off the picture looked all hazy. It might have been a bit of a naff film but the 3D effects really worked very well.
 
3D in the cinema is usually a variation of the Polaroid process. Red/green anaglyph glasses are usually for 16mm re-releases of old black and white 3D movies even though they were originally made using the Polaroid system.
The coloured glasses supplied with dvd releases are a subtler version of red/green anaglyph, designed to reduce colour distortion, as the Polaroid process, which preserves colour more effectively, doesn't work on tv.
If you find a showing of a classic b+w 3D movie in 35mm Polaroid, go see it! :cool:
 
Why on earth would you want a 3D film? It'd probably make you feel sick and it wouldn't be very realisitic for one. Spy KiRAB 3D was just kiRAB popping out the screen. The only place I've seen 3D cinema work effectively was at Disneyland, the Honey I shrunk the audience ride - and that was only because it had audience interaction.

And google maps is not 3d, it just flattens the image!
 
I did read somewhere that George Lucas was planning to rerelease the original star wars trilogy in 3D from this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary.
 
It was the film for the theme parks and was originally in 4D (4D is where you feel water, wind, and the seat moves, so you get to feel and see the film)
 
Ther have been plenty of films in 3D the first was Bwana Devil. Others include "House of Wax", "Creature from the Black Lagoon", "Dial M for Murder","Jaws 3", "Nightmare on Elm Street 3D".
Theres loaRAB more. You may have to go to cinemas to watch them in 3D. (I saw the house of wax at the NFT in london, and Creature from the black lagoon in a local art cinema).

As previously mentioned IMAX cinemas are the best place nowadays to see them and some films are superb.
Some themes parks have them too (Legoland in the UK I think).
The Shrek 3D one is a pretty good one on DVD.
