When will healthcare stop being a business and start caring about health?

Because right now it should be called "moneycare" seeing as how "healthcare" institutions care more about preserving money than health. Healthcare should be government-controlled, not privately-controlled. And although that goes against what I should believe as a republican, for me the future of my people comes before the future of my party.

By my people I mean the American people.

I think this contradicts an earlier question of mine about being conservative.
Adrian, dude, your avatar like almost like mine!

Oh and they only care about your health because you or your good insurance plan is paying the healthcare company or hospital.
Oops i meant to say your avatar "is almost like mine".

The same time food stops 'being a business' and starts caring about the hungry...NEVER.

It's not a right -- it's a service.

And "moneycare" as you call it will rear it's ugly head again if taken over by the government as programs have to be self-sustaining or risk two options:
1. Cut user benefits
2. Increase taxes

Medicare should serve as a window into what UHC will bring. It's currently 40 billion in debt and on its way to 20 trillion (w/ a T) over 50 years. They have two options (care to guess?)
1. Cut user benefits
2. Increase taxes (Appropriations were given in Obama's "Stimulus" Bill)

Canada just inject their own "Stimulus" into their system as more hospitals fail than open their doors. (Thank you Picador *below*--the voice of reason)

The UHC model isn't sustainable long term...

"When the sheer greed and profit motive is removed from it."

No truer words spoken -- pay for it yourself you greedy pig.

"Plus, when health insurance is not based only on the fact one is employed to get it."

I'm unemployed and have a policy -- how did that happen? Surely it isn't as easy as buying a candy bar at the store...the transaction must have a way of leveraging those not worthy by asking small qualifying chaos theory questions and rocket propulsion logistics?

"Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" - universal healthcare for ALL allows those words to actually have some meaning..."

Pursuit of Happiness is the integral phrase. Pursue a policy -- you will be happy you did when you get sick.

Plus, when health insurance is not based only on the fact one is employed to get it.

"Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" - universal healthcare for ALL allows those words to actually have some meaning...

This will happen when magical unicorns come down and work for free as doctors and nurses, as well as the rest of the hospital staff. Why do you think doctors and nurse really go to med and nursing school... money. Why would they work for $12 an hour. Might as well go work in a factory and make $14 dollars an hour and have a lot less stress and responsibility.

When the healthcare/drug/insurance lobbies stop pumping so much cash into the parties. I wish there was a way it could actually happen, but to quote a wise philosopher...."Cash rules everything around me CREAM get the money, dollar dollar bill ya'll"
The Clintons tried, and they tried hard when Bill first got in office, but they were stopped dead in their tracks by insurance interest groups.
It's the fact its not even just one interest group, but many. Its the insurance companies because they're the actual corporations making a profit off this racket. Its the healthcare industry because they're getting paid way too much to do what they do, more than anywhere else in the world. They do great work, but so do policemen, firemen, teachers, etc, but they don't all get paid $300,000+ a year. Its the pharmaceutical companies that get to peddle their hundred dollar pills...They may as well be peddling ecstasy.
You don't need to feel like a traitor to your party. Many right wing groups in Canada and Europe still support the essentials of universal healthcare, its just considered a fundamental there. The fact its actually a partisan issue here never stops baffling me.

Its just a mystery how government 'socialized' programs became so demonized.
The police may not be perfect all the time, but they do a damn good job.
As aggravating as the post office can be, you can send a @#$@#ing letter 3000 miles in 4 days for 50 cents.
The firemen...enough said.
For all the shortcomings in our education system, it still does a pretty decent job.
Where are all these big evil government run corrupt socialized programs? The library system?

its not that hard, you work, you get healthcare, buisnesses are good!, they care about your health

edit: lol yeah, the thing is that they provide a service, they need their money

When we get a real public option that is available to all at an affordable rate.

There ARE Conservatives who agree with you...though not many. You will notice that those in your party who agree with you have had to deal first hand with an ailing loved one or poor health of their own....causing them to rethink what average, everyday Americans must struggle with on a daily basis without their clout and privlidge. People like Mitt Romney and Rudy Guiliani completely changed their positions on health care....as will others when their own loved ones must struggle with being denied care for serious and life threatening medical conditions that are not 'preapproved' or not covered under their costly plans they have had for decades.
The rest of them won't change their opinions until it directly affects them personally. Hopefully, they live very lucky lives....otherwise, they too will deal with the poor system we have currently....and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I live in Canada. We have a universal health care system. But the basis of any system, health or otherwise, is a human being hoping to extract the maximum return for the minimum of effort. You have profit-making HMOs. We have unionized doctors and nurses, who put their interests above ours every time.
