When was the last time you discussed Astro Biology with someone....?

Damn my 20 year old son is freaking smart.....did you know that the light we see from a star could be 350 million years old and that the star may not even be there anymore....
 
Encourage them to learn about it, if this is what they are interested in. There are all sorts of fields one can study in relation to celestial bodies beyond the Earth's atmosphere in all fields of scientific inquiry. If your son likes biology and the universe, astrobiology is the way to go... if he likes chemistry, take the astrochemistry route... and physics, of course, the infamous field of astrophysics, etc. Depending on which field your son shows primary interest, will govern what he may end up studying, if he wishes to delve into this beyond a simple hobby. The universe has in it just about everything any scientist could ever feel the need to study, it's just a matter of finding what interests you the most, to determine where to begin.
 
Anyone who's tuned into the history channel for more than a day or two knows that. They've also probably heard Neil deGrasse Tyson marvel about how "we're all star dust!" as if it's not the 547th time he's pulled out that little chestnut and made it sound like it was some incredible cosmic wonder no one had ever heard before. Yawn.
 
Cool. encourage him. he probably knows a bit and needs to learn more if this is what he wants to do.

I thing and talk about this type of stuff on a daily basis (I am no professional, just an enthusiast)

there's alot more crazy stuff about the speed of light too.

moving the speed of light makes time seem to freeze for you and when you stop, time flows like normal, its just it seems you're in future.

but people can't move the speed of light. thats impossible
