When trying to start my grand prix it often needs to be jump or in other cases when it doesnt i have to pump the gas and hold the key turned until it finally cranks up, what could be the problem? I have heard alternator but i thought i would come here for more answers and possible solutions, thank you

It sounds like the battery could be dead/dying, if not then there could be a problem with the starter in the engine and yes it could be the alternator

If you have to jump the car, there is a weak battery or a bad starter. Pumping the gas doesn't really help, but while you're doing "something" and the car finally starts, that "something" seems like what helped. Check your battery. It should be at 12 volts before you try to start the car. When the car is running you should be able to measure about 13.8 volts on the battery if the alternator works at all. A bad starter may work sometimes and sometimes not, and it will draw extra power- power that the engine needs to get going. A 6 year old car shouldn't have a weak battery or worn out starter yet, but it is possible.

It could be the fuel pump, I just put one in my Trans Am and it took care of it. They say when the fuel has low pressure it causes it.
