When to fill gas on an S-40?

My wife and I are new riders of 2007 S-40's. (Sold our Harley's. Too heavy to load and unload from the pickup when traveling around in a RV)

We really like the S-40's. They fit our lifestyle much better, but they have NO TRIP Odometer.

How many miles do you S-40 owners run before stopping for gas? We don't want to have to switch to reserve.

Since conditions dictate fuel use, I'd recommend you run both bikes to reserve several times while in close proximity to fuel stations. Your personal riding habits, weather, terrain, and fuel type can all change your usage.
 
Like Rowdy said, will depend on your riding habits. A friend of mine, his wife has one. When she is riding it she can go about 120 to 130 miles before hitting reserve. When he rides it sometimes he doesn't even get to 100 miles before hitting reserve. Just the difference in the way the two of them ride it.
 
I can't believe there's no trip meter. Talk about budget! I'd have considered it a requirement for either a fuel gauge or a trip meter.
 
I usually filled up at around 100 miles or when the engine burped then just flipped to reserve good for another 20-30 miles.
 
Since we don't have trip meters, I got tired of figuring out mileage till the next fill up. Unless I'm heading on a trip or something which requires me to run for hours then I would do a odometer count. I find it easier on a weekly basis to just concider my habits and fill the tank once a week..say on Sunday. Evedidently if I go for longer rides I fill it regardless...gas stations are everywhere. If I'm unsure, I just pop the gas cap and have a look at what's in there! You get to know how far you can go....
 
My first bike was a S40, I loved that bike it was a great starter but wasn't enough for my wife and I to ride two up. Back to the question, I generally went 100 to 115 miles before filling up. The most I ever got out of it before going to reserve was 127 miles.
 
It's probably not a bad idea to switch to reserve every now and then so that you don't get a build up of water and trash in the bottom of the tank. That way if you really need it, you won't be stuck on the side of the road with a messed up carb.
