I just bought a spotted puffer fish today and also the sea salt mixture to make the fish water brackish(salt/freshwater). So when do I add the salt in? Should I wait for a week? 3 days? a month?

I already know I should put a bit in so that the puffer can adjust itself to the water.... But when? So see if you guys can help!

Thanks in advance!

Gradually! They do better in full marine once they are full grown if it is a green spotted puffer. You should go here www.thepufferforum.com. I just got one a month ago and they really helped me out. Also, is it a green spotted puffer? Dwarf puffer? Figure 8? All of those are spotted and they all require brackish water except the dwarf puffer. Puffers are the best!

That pufferforum link is a good site, lots of good info there. Here's a direct link to a good article that tells you how much to increase the salinity and how often to do it for a green spotted puffer, look under cycling, specific gravity, acclimating:

Start as soon as you can. Even if it's just a tablespoon for every 5 gallons of water he's in now. Adding that much doesn't really change the salinity where you can measure it with a hydrometer, but it will be better for your fish.

And yes, build it up gradually. Always dissolve the salt with some water in a bottle before you put it in the tank.
