If you are intending to paint it yourself, you may want to leave the primer on, as it can sometimes be difficult to get hold of, and is difficult to get it done right (eg, sanding, sand blasting, smoothing etc), though you will get a better finish with a fresh start if you know what your doing....
 
...original primer or leave it? Just stripping down my wrecked BMX for a repaint, i took the paint layers off and wondered if it was necessary to remove the original coats of primer..
 
you should use nitromorz (paint stripper ) it will leave a bare metal frame takes all paint and primer off just brush it on and leave for a few mins and it will literally bubble off then wash off with water then re prime bike then paint if you wanna be technical about it you should etch prime the bare metal first but i wouldn't bother on a bmx
