When should I recharge my Gameboy Advance SP?

I have a rechargeable Gameboy Advance SP. Should I charge it when the signal light flashes red, or when the game completely dies out?

Also, does playing while recharging hurt the Gameboy or its battery life?
 
i put mine on the charger once i seen the red light hit. heck i do it with my ds now days old habits XD. but in hnset opinion it when ever you want to charge it and i did that for a couple of years with my SP and i didnt have any problem with the battery life
 
Like with any battery operated systems (cell phones, i pods or gameboys) the batteries should only be charged when they are completely life less, and should always be charged off, and all the way. Fact. batteries have memory. lets say you only charge the battery 50% the next time you go to charge even if you leave it plugged in to charge 100% of the way, chances are it will only charge 50%.
