When science clashes with beliefs? Make science impotent

If you need an example of "in the face of contradictory evidence," which is, I assume, what you where challenging: creationism.
 
Belief that isn't based on evidence is irrational. It actually undermines the arguments of most religions, particularly christianity, to suggest that it isn't.
 
That you trust it all the time? Because you do...you're typing on a computer...so you do.

or

That you selectively do? The fact that you trust some aspects but distrust others display that you selectively trust science.
 
1. Redacted is when you go through a document and black out sections that are classified. It's not the same thing as 'retracted'.

2. There is no quantity of advanced degrees that can physically prevent a scientist from manipulating a study or blatantly lying about it. This is true of essentially any human being and any human enterprise. The beauty of science is that when we figure it out, we'll demonstrate that he was wrong (and/or lying), shame him if he deserves it, and correct our understanding. That's what's happening to Andrew Wakefield (vaccine man) right now. He's a fraud.

'Cynicism' isn't the sign of a healthy scientist, skepticism is. And skepticism is precisely the difference between science and dogma. Science is the only system of knowledge-acquisition that has a self-correction mechanism. Well, it's the only system of knowledge-acquisition, but that's another post.

Honestly, I don't believe people distrust science, I do believe people distrust certain areas of science, especially when politics is mixed with science, and the two become symbiotic and inseparable (One needs lots of free money, and one needs justification for more money, power, and control). That is where the distrust begins to creep in.

The same distrust exists within the mixing of religion and government as well. I don't think people would have the same level of hate for religion, or atleast Christianity, if people hadn't used it as a tool within government to control people and project their sense of morals upon everyone.

Ultimately, if you want people to start thinking you have an ulterior motive for things, invite a slick haired, snake tongued, power and money hungry politician into your corner and you will find plenty of people that will immediately begin questioning your motives.
