When Oscar Got It Right

As there is a thread where we can all bitch and moan about what we think are the worst decisions made by the Academy AwarRAB voters I thought I'd start this one where we can say where and when we think they got it right.......

My first choice would be Patricia Neal winning Best Actress for Hud........a brilliant performance IMO

I'd also applaud the Best Actress Oscar given to Liza Minnelli for Cabaret.......I can watch her in that role time after time and all the circus that surrounRAB her life since then makes no difference to how great she is in the role!

i think its a bit of a cop out when people win for playing someone with a disability or a real person

much harder i think to play a contemporary person and win

eg i would have rather kate winslet win for little children last year than helen mirren

ditto ,aryl streep in the hours instead of nicole kidman

I have never been able to see what was so wonderful about Daniel Day Lewis’ performance in My Left Foot. It wasn’t a convincing portrayal of someone with cerebral palsy, more of someone half cut.

In 2004 I was so worried that The Return Of The King would not win the oscars . thank god for once they voted for a popular movie and not an art one

The Lives of Others beating Pan's Labyrinth for Best Foreign language Film.
Both brilliant movies but The Lives of Others is just slightly better, imo.
