when my car mazda 626 1994 model is not engage with gear, the engine rpm

will be 1.2x1000.? But when I reduced to 0.5 X 1000rpm, the engine will off itself any time the A/C compressor want pick. Pls kindly help me out.
As a result, my car consume up to 22litres/100km.
