When lightning strikes the ocean why don't all the fish die?

With all that salt water around, I think the energy will be more likely to travel through the water which contains a lot of ions than through the fish. Think of the volume ratio of water to fish. This is not like a person in a tub. This is a small volume and not many ions in the fresh water; the energy would rather go through the person - the person is more conductive than the water in that case.
 
Because there's an awful lot of resistance. The energy would dissipate quickly before getting to a significant distance. Even though water is conductive, it's not superconductive.
