When I try to start my truck (1990 Toyota) it just clicks.?

I don't know if the click means anything, but I took of the wires to the battery and cleaned them and that didn't help, the lights dim a little bit when I try to start it, anybody?

If it a a fast series of clicks then it is a low/dead battery if it is one solid click then it will be your starter. You may still get it going by boosting the battery and having someone tap the starter itself while you are turning the key.

I know that click -- dead battery.

You either need a charger -- a "jump" -- or a new battery.

Could be that your battery is almost dead, too low for the engine to turn over

if the terminals were dirty, it may have not have been getting a charge. charge the battery or jump it from another.

needs a new starter unit-not a battery-these have a gear reduction starter that whan they fail they will just click--try it over and over and it will most likely start eventually

Definitely the battery. When you get a new one you can usually get like 10 dollars for the core of you old one.
