I've read that a compression test and oil pressure test is the best way to learn the condition of an engine. But when I've asked various mechanics about their price for a pre-purchase inspection, they tell me a compression/oil pressure test isn't necessary. They tell me newer cars don't need it as the computer analysis is sufficient. Should I spend the extra $50-$100 for these tests before I buy this 2006 Saturn(29K miles)?
