history/economics/politics/literature, how much control and freedom..? When going in to teaching (high school) history/economics/politics/literature, how much control and freedom would I have with teaching? I mean, is there like a lesson play that the school gives you and says "Here, only teach this" or what?

Thanks!!! And on a side note, the areas listed above are the areas I want to teach. Are they good to get a job in? Math and science I know are more desired and popular as far as jobs go, but those are not my subjects lol!
Jeter, can you elaborate?

douglas. first of all, good for you for deciding to teach. its noble. you will have a lot of freedom as far as what/how you want to teach. however, standardized testing has become the main priority in the profession. because of this, you will be expected to cover (what we call in louisiana) Grade Level Expectations. These are certain skills that prepare students for standardized testing. Not only will you be expected to teach these specific skills, but you will also want to make sure you have documentation that you did teach them.
