When figuring out COGS, how do you find purchases on a financial statement of a company?

If COGS = beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory. I have the inventory numbers, but cannot find the purchases. Is it accounts payable? Somehow, that doesn't make sense to me....Please help! XD
