7 years from the date of first delinquency...this time period can never be restarted.

If you have debt that you believe is being reported past the 7 year allowable time frame:

Send the credit bureaus a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt stating:

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am requesting:
- validation that this alleged debt is being reporting within the 7-year time frame as allowed under the Fair Credit Reporting Act
- validation of the original Date of First Delinquency

Ok, i have some items that were reported over seven years ago on my report but they get refreshed by the company. When does the 7 year period start? Is it from the day it was 1st reported?
ok, i looked and my report has a date started and date reported. So is it date reported from? Or date started from? One item was started in 1998 and reported in 2001. Either way they are past 7 years and still not off my report. But i wasnt sure if it was the start or reported date.

Items are allowed to be reported for 7 years and 180 days from date of first delinquency.

Items should not be getting "refreshed" unless you have made a payment on the debts, even if the debt is sold to a new collection agency, they are not allowed to re-age the account.
