When do you replace the timing belt in a 1997 Ford Escort wagon?

I have a 1997 Ford Escort wagon, approaching 60k miles. The Service Guide says NOTHING about replacing the timing belt. Is it supposed to last forever?? If not, when is it supposed to be replaced?
 
you should be good for now unless it dry rotted but not til 120,000 miles should it go bad
