it's official, my little Sarah is riding her bike with OUT training wheels! So exciting!! She is 4 years old, and her twin sister won't hardly budge to get on a bike! Her good big brother took her out and taught her and then her other older brother and daddy helped! They have been doing this since friday afternoon. She's a pro!

when did your start riding without training wheels? Who taught them?

I was 7, only because my friend pushed me and made me ride. Dad said he was shocked when my sister ran in and said "Liz is riding a bike liz is riding a bike without training wheels!!!"
Evan is five turning six in a month and is too scared to ride at the moment

I tried when I was 12 (SERIOUSLY!) hah, I loved my training wheels, they were sturdy ones that my dad made. I couldn't balance AT ALL when he took them off so I gave up on bikes because anyone older than 12 still using training wheels is just weird.

ETA: I was still riding a tricycle at 4 and most of my friends lost their training wheels at 7, I know someone who rode a tricycle well past 6. I think some of these people are lying.

My eldest was also 4, my middle son was 3. My youngest is 2 and still uses training wheels. Give him a little longer!

My husband taught them, didnt take long or much encouragement. They were keen to master it.

I still remember the day my dad tried to teach me. I was 5 and it took him the good part of the afternoon. He was about to call it a day, and I finally mastered it!

It is exciting, isnt it! No stopping her now.

I used training wheels until I was in 5th grade. I had a bike when I was younger but my the tires went flat so I never got a new bike until 9, 10-ish. My parents are always busy so I pretty much taught myself by taking one training wheel off and then the other.

I learned at 4. Looking at my four year old son, I think that is way too young. My dad just took everyone's training wheels away on their fourth birthday.
Part of that depends on how long they have been riding. Kids who ride at two may have more confidence at four than a kid who started at four.

My niece didn't learn to ride a bike until she was seven and her mom let her use training wheels for a year. So her and her sister both learned at 8, since they rode trikes until about 7.
My oldest son only got his first bike at 5, which was last summer, so he won't get his training wheels off right away.

Congrats for your little one! Bike riding is an awsome skill!

My son was nearly seven before he got his taken off, but since then there's been no stopping him!

He took a spectacular tumble the first time he tried riding down a big hill. Seems somebody *ahem* forgot to tell him he should use his brakes to control his speed. Got the speed wobbles, and bam! Luckily it was a grassy hill.

He got up, had a bit of a cry, then got back on and kept riding.

My twins were also 4. My daughter taught herself and I had to help my son. It is great isn't it. they can go much faster and they love it

My boys both rode w/o training wheels at 4. They taught them selves with a little help from us. i was shocked to my socks. i was 6 before I learned and my daughter tried at 6, had one too many falls and refused to ride her bike. It took company coming and a full day of some else riding her bike ( she was so jealous she glowed green!) before she'd try again. She was maybe 7 or even 8. Though she could ride was just afraid.
Dani, people aren't lying. I never thought a 4y/o could ride with no training wheels. Maybe it was different where you grew up.
Congrats to SARAH!!
Her sister may be like my Erin and so jealous she will jump on soon.
