When did your baby first realize that they can holler/cough/whine/etc to get your...

...attention? Mine figured it out about a week or so ago. She sure does love to draw me in that way!
 
Gosh...I would say right away! Straight outta the womb. One of those "inborn" things...like breathing, swallowing, blinking, etc.
 
i would say straight away, i got into the Habit of picking her up every time she cryd which was not a good idea because now she thinks every time she crys im going to pick her up, its a lot harder getting her out of the Habit than it is getting into the Habit
 
my daughter figured out around 7mos she could cough to get my attention. my son is a whole other story. he hollers and squeals until i pick him up, and then will sit and gurgle at me! too clever!
 
she was about 8-9mos. and she would cough, she crawled at 6mos so i was paranoid she would find something id missed and choke on it. so she would put this pake lil cough on, and id rush over and pick her up. then she clicked on that she could do it for attention.

she is 15mos now and when you say, where is your bad cough, she will cough and its the most fake thing you have ever heard. its funny.

I don't remember my daughter's exact age she had to be at least 4 or 5 months. she is 3 now and she still does it. and it works every time.
 
She was 7 months old. She would stand in her crib and yell Hey! Hey!!
