When did you realise you could write poetry?

I'm strongly of the belief that poetry cannot be taught, so when did you realise that you had a talent for it? With me, it was when I beat 50 other people in year 6 to win the Bardic Chair, then beat 800 people to win it again in year 9. That was good. But also, I learnt to read when I was 3, so I suppose the way with words was always there.

When did you discover your talent? :)
Sorry, didn't mean to sound cocky, but I suppose I did - I was just trying to explain what I meant :)
And I also think that everyone can write poetry as long as they have something that they feel strongly about! So everyone who says they haven't realised that they can write it, you will because you can. That's my opinion, anyway :D
 
I'm one of the unlucky ones who've never quite got it right!

I try, and try, and try .... but it always comes out sounding contrived and awkward.

I found that I had a better skill for putting words to music, not poetry exactly, but not far from it and for me, much more enjoyable.
 
I realized I had talent, when I stopped cutting myself. It helped me feel better and I realized that I didnt have the need to cut anymore :)
 
as of yet I havent realized anything.......but arent you proud of yourself?
 
We had our first ever poetry lesson in Primary school and mine was so good i was asked to type it up on a real computer ( something you barly got to touch at primary) and give it to the Deputy
I was so pleased
