When clicking a link, how to make it STAY clicked in HTML/CSS?

Hi I'm trying to make a link stay DOWN on my site. For example, if you hover over links its highlighted yellow, but when its clicked it I want it to STAY highlighted yellow, so the user will know what page they are on.

I'm assuming you have to do something with "a: active" but I'm not too sure. Any suggestions?
