...opposed to movements that fit? I like to choreograph dances for hiphop and other types of modern dances, and I always want to improve my choreographing skills, watching many videos to get ideas to increase my "dancing vocabulary," if you will. However, when it comes down to crunch time, how much should I rely on the actual lyrics of the song to help me create a move as opposed to using or making a move that fits with the music and the melody of the words?
I'm not really asking how much you should rely on the words in general, because the answer to that would be when you're making a move based on lyrics make it not completely obvious that it matches the lyrics because then it becomes corny - make it integrated into a cool kind of move that won't come off as stupid and silly.
I'm really asking is how often I should rely on the lyrics as opposed to general, random dance moves that look good and help keep the dance going?
