When can I take a preg test with irregular periods?

My last period started on the 29th of June and ended on the 28th July. So I don't know if im late yet. One week ago I had a light bleed that was not like period blood and was only a few drops then stopped. I am experiencing a lot of tummy discomfort and swelling. I can't guess when I would have ovulated, and we have been trying for a baby almost daily for a while. When should I test?
 
You can get a clear answer 14 days after you have sex, so if it has been 14 days just take a test.
But a month long period is NOT normal, you should seek the advice of a doctor
