I'm getting a gym membership tomorrow when I get out of class because I'd like to get into shape and I really would like to lose some weight/tone up for summer.
I currently weigh 150-155 lbs and wear a size 10 but because I'm only 5'3" it looks like a lot more and I'd like to get down to a size 6 and eventually a 4. I'm also taking a Biology course this summer where you spend almost a month out West studying the ecology of 5 national parks and I'd really like to be in good shape for that as we'll be hiking rough terrain for up to 12 hours a day.
So what is the best way that I go about doing this? Someone told me to do cardio first to slim down and then build muscle or should I start both at the same time? I'm also planning to go at least three nights a week (with a buddy to stay motivated) for around an hour and a half each visit? Is that good or should I follow a different schedule?
I'm also really worried that my skin won't retract as I lose weight (I'm only 20 and someone said that because of my age I don't need to worry about it?) because I want to look trim not like a woman's stomache afetr having a baby... Is there anything I should do to make sure that my skin doesn't stay where it was as a size 10 even when the rest of me is a 6?
Also if you have any other suggestions as to how to get the best results out of my gym membership they'd be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ericka
