When Buying cars, which is better, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mini cooper?

I've had a Toyota Corolla for 10 years now, I think I've had it in the shop twice in all that time for minor problems, and it's still running good, but i'm ready for a change. I've never actually bought a car on my own before, and now is supposed to be good time to buy one. What's the best car to buy that is reliable, low-maintenance, with good gas mileage, but still looks good and fun to drive. What things should I look for to know I'm getting a good deal, and Ideally how much lower should my final price be than the sticker price?
Thank you to everyone for their input, particulary David and Banger. I will take all your advice into consideration.
