Hi, just wondering if anybody has the same symptoms as me? Symptoms in the past/present include; ear ache, sore throats, burning throat (at the sternum), mucous, thick throat, CONSTANT throat clearing, BURPING, neck pain etc etc.

I have been to an ENT who did the scope up the nose and down the throat as far as the vocal chorRAB - found nothing sinister. He suspected that it is acid reflux and doubled the dose of my PPI's for a month.

To be honest, my symptoms have still be up and down, seems to be a rollercoaster where some days I am pretty much ok and others I get some or all of the symptons. When I get the burning in my sternum it usually hangs around for a day or two and gaviscon etc seem to give no relief although it always feels better when I eat.

My question is really in terms of when the symtoms are worst. I get no problems when I am sleeping and generally in the morning when I wake up I have little or no symptoms until 15-20 mins after I get up. SounRAB funny but it almost seems like the burning only kicks in once my tummy has woken up. I don't tend to have problems after I eat per se, just seems a little more general although I do burp alot! Does this sound like acid reflux? As I said other times I have no symptoms whatsoever!

I have today spoken to my ENT about the fact that the PPI's don't really seem to be doing too much and he is refferring me to a Gastro consultant to get a GI done which I am a little worried about.

When my condition became acute, I was on a very wild rollercoaster. It took 3 months to figure out my primary trigger was black pepper. I stopped consuming black pepper and products containing peppers (BBQ sauce) and my condition improved and the rollercoaster was much better.

A year later, I had another rollercoaster event and was allergy tested. I found out I was allergic to corn. I eliminated corn products from my diet(corn, corn chips, high fructose corn syrup, Maltodextrin). My rollercoaster again became much better.

I have a minor roller coaster happening right now. I have isolated the trigger to be decaf green tea or dark chocolate. I should know is a few more weeks.

If you are on a rollercoaster, I strongly suggest you put yourself on a very simple and bland diet. Once you stabilize, you can add things back. The trick here is to add a food back to you diet is great quantity. I can eat corn twice a week and be fine. I can have espresso twice a week and be fine. However, If I have epresso one morning and corn in the evening and some corn chips the next day for lunch, I will have problems.

You have to find your personal triggers and eliminate them.

Good Luck!

hi dear,
i have burining sensation in my throat and it's leaked to acid reflux for 13 years. I hope here is way to cure them. let me know if you know something.
hope you are well

SounRAB just like me! little to no symptoms during the night, gets worse during the day, only just started with the burping but my do I burp, even after drinking tea!
I havent been officially diagnosed yet after 3 months waiting for results! but my symptoms do point to reflux.

My symptoms are worse during the evening- & frequently prevent me sleeping up to as late as 2am! Once I can stop the throat clearing/coughing & actually get to sleep then I am fine till about 1/2 hour after I get up. Then the process starts again! Really miserable complaint, isn't it!

It's fascinating to read these posts. I too seem to do fine in the evening. My stomach seems to go to sleep with me and I usually don't suffer heartburn until after I eat in the morning and sometimes even if I drink water. That seems to wake my stomach up. In a way, I am grateful I don't experience heartburn while I sleep. I hope that means acid is not washing up into my esophagus while I sleep.

I am also trying to find triggers. I have stopped the expected irritants but still experience heartburn every three days or so. It seems "cyclical" like others here have posted. Again, I don't know if it is the nature of the disease to act up every so often or if I am inadvertently consuming a trigger.

I have the exact same issue with my reflux problem. I tend to be better at night and as the day rolls on I have problems. And it waxes and wains. Now lately I have a soreness in my ears, throat and a shortness of breath that really scares me. The prilosec I take does not help much and I would really like to find a natural cure or treatment. It has been a long time since I had and endoscopy but my symptoms started two years ago and just seem to be getting worse. Any ideas you have would help.

I recently wondered whether it had anything to do with toothpaste in the fact that it was ok during the night but would start soon after getting up (and brushing my teeth) in the morning. I wondered if it had anything to do with the mint flavour so I changed temporarily to a children's rasberry flavoured toothpaste. Definitely doesnt give you that fresh feeling but after 2 weeks of using it I can honestly say that it seems to have helped considerably. I have also changed from using the mint flavoured Gaviscon to the Aniseed flavour which again seems to suit me more.

Anybody else thought that toothpaste may have been a trigger for their reflux?
