My 10 year old van gets comparable mileage to the new ones. Don't you think with the MASSIVE government bailout - GM would produce something way better than we've ever seen? The goverment basically wrote them a blank check to do with whatever they please. A gift with no strings. Where's mine? Shouldn't we expect more out of this insanity of bailing out failed businesses? With such a massive investment - wouldn't GM be able to produce a truly cost effective and fuel effiecient vehicle choice? Unless you're buying a minicar - fuel efficiency has hardly improved in the last 10 years. My old cars are actually serving me well because if I buy a new and comparable car, the MPG has hardly improved. I kept hearing rumors about some miraculous discoveries that were happening and that some new very fuel efficient vehicles would be coming out but I'm not seeing that at all. In looking at car sites, the only thing they have done is make them more luxurious - not more budget friendly or fuel efficient. They slap some huge price tag on and tell you what all of the incredible features are. But, what about the person who wants affordable without incredible extras and very improved gas mileage? Why is it that in selling a hybrid no one can tell me what the electric cost part would be and what the real maintenance cost is. I mean, the battery probably has to be replaced at some point for like at least 5k right? Doesn't anyone understand that throwing free cash at an industry doesn't improve it in the least? The GM cars I see out there now are simply bigger and more luxurious to own. It's like they are now making BMWs instead of cars the average person can own and go green with - which I thought was the whole point right?
The super expensive to run and update websites have these incredible movies and everything but when are we going to cut through to actually producing what is supposed to come out - a car with a really high fuel efficiency that can seat more than 2 people and is affordable to own in a recession that in all reality - is NOT improving.
